Using WorkerSafety Pro on T-Satellite
This article covers the day-to-day experience of using WorkerSafety Pro while connected to T-Satellite, including how each safety feature works, what happens in an emergency, and best practices for workers and safety managers.
Your Safety Features on Satellite
All of your WorkerSafety Pro safety features work the same way on satellite as they do on cellular. The only difference you may notice is that things take slightly longer to send.
Check-Ins
Complete your check-ins as you normally would. The app sends them via satellite automatically if cellular coverage isn't available. You may notice a short delay compared to cellular, but the check-in will go through.
Panic Button and Alerts
Press your panic button or activate an alert exactly as you normally would. The alert transmits via satellite to your emergency contacts with all the usual details, including your location.
Fall Detection
Fall detection works identically on satellite. If a fall is detected, the alert is sent automatically through the satellite connection. No action is required from you.
Location Services
Your GPS location works as usual regardless of whether you're on cellular or satellite. Your coordinates are automatically included with any alert sent from your device.
What Happens in an Emergency
If an emergency occurs while you're connected via T-Satellite, here's the sequence of events:
- Your alert transmits via satellite. It may take slightly longer than on cellular, but it will go through.
- Your GPS coordinates are sent automatically. Your emergency contacts receive your exact location.
- Your emergency contacts are notified. They receive alerts by phone call, email, and text message.
- Emergency services are dispatched. Help is sent to your location.
- You can also text 911 directly using your phone's messaging app if needed.
Important: If you're waiting for confirmation after sending an alert, stay in place if it's safe to do so. This gives your device the best possible satellite connection. Help is on the way even if confirmation takes a moment.
What Safety Managers See on the Dashboard
The Becklar Safety Dashboard displays satellite-connected workers clearly so you always know the connection type for each worker. You'll see:
- Real-time status of all workers
- A connection type indicator showing whether each worker is on cellular or satellite
- Check-in and check-out status
- Full alert history and emergency notifications
There may be slight delays in real-time updates for workers on satellite connections. This is normal and expected with satellite communication.
Best Practices for Workers
Before Heading to a Remote Location
- Verify that T-Satellite is active on your account.
- Update WorkerSafety Pro to the latest version.
- Test the satellite connection in a safe location before relying on it.
- Tell your supervisor where you'll be working.
While in Satellite Coverage
- Stay outdoors with as few overhead obstructions as possible.
- Allow extra time for check-ins and messages to send.
- If the connection doesn't happen immediately, wait a moment and try again.
- Complete your check-ins on schedule — the system will send them via satellite.
- Don't send the same message or alert repeatedly. Your phone will keep trying until it succeeds.
In an Emergency
- Activate your alert as you normally would.
- Stay in place if it's safe to do so — this helps maintain your satellite connection.
- Your location is transmitted automatically.
- Help is on the way even if you don't receive immediate confirmation.
Best Practices for Safety Managers
Training Your Team
Before sending workers to remote satellite-only locations, make sure they understand:
- How to recognize when they're connected to T-Satellite (look for "T-Mobile SpaceX" or "T-Sat+Starlink" on their device)
- That messages and alerts will take longer to send than on cellular
- The importance of being outdoors with a clear sky view
- How to practice sending test alerts before going to remote areas
We recommend running test scenarios in satellite coverage areas so your team is comfortable with the experience before it matters.
Monitoring and Planning
- Review T-Mobile's coverage map to understand where satellite service is available for your work locations.
- Establish clear protocols for workers entering satellite-only areas, including adjusted check-in schedules if needed.
- Monitor the Becklar Safety Dashboard regularly for workers in remote locations.
- Gather feedback from workers using satellite connectivity and adjust processes over time.
Important Limitations
T-Satellite does not work:
- Inside buildings
- Inside vehicles
- On airplanes or cruise ships
- Under heavy tree cover or in deep canyons
For the best connection, workers should be outdoors with a clear view of the sky. Terrain features like mountains and dense forests can also reduce signal quality.
