What Is T-Satellite?

WorkerSafety Pro now integrates with T-Mobile's T-Satellite service, making it the first Digital PPE solution to protect workers in remote areas where traditional cellular networks don't reach. This article explains what T-Satellite is and how it works with WorkerSafety Pro.

T-Satellite Overview

T-Satellite is T-Mobile's satellite-based cellular service, built in partnership with SpaceX Starlink. It lets compatible smartphones connect directly to satellites when traditional cell towers are out of range.

There's no special equipment needed, no manual setup, and no pointing your phone at the sky. When your phone loses cellular coverage, it automatically connects to T-Satellite and keeps working. When you return to an area with cellular coverage, your phone switches back on its own.

How Does It Work?

Starlink satellites act as cell towers in space. When your phone detects that it's outside normal cellular coverage, it automatically searches for and connects to the nearest satellite. This happens in the background — you don't need to do anything.

Where Does T-Satellite Work?

T-Satellite currently covers the following areas:

  • Continental United States — Full coverage
  • Hawaii — Full coverage
  • Puerto Rico — Full coverage
  • Southern Alaska — Partial coverage

What Can You Do on T-Satellite?

While connected to T-Satellite, you can:

  • Send and receive text messages (SMS)
  • Send picture messages (MMS) on most devices
  • Share your location
  • Use satellite data with compatible apps, including WorkerSafety Pro
  • Text 911 for emergencies

How WorkerSafety Pro Uses T-Satellite

WorkerSafety Pro automatically detects when your phone switches to satellite and continues operating without any action from you. All of your critical safety features work the same way on satellite as they do on cellular:

  • Emergency alerts and panic button — Transmit via satellite to your emergency contacts and monitoring center
  • Check-in/check-out — Sends automatically through whichever connection is available
  • Fall detection and worker-down alerts — Trigger and transmit just as they would on cellular
  • Location services — Your GPS coordinates are included with every alert
  • Dashboard monitoring — Safety managers see your status in real time, with an indicator showing whether you're on cellular or satellite
  • 24/7 monitoring center support — Becklar's monitoring centers receive and respond to satellite alerts using the same protocols as cellular

What Should I Expect?

Satellite communication works a little differently than cellular. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Timing: Messages and alerts may take 30 seconds to a few minutes to send, compared to near-instant delivery on cellular.
  • Outdoor use required: T-Satellite works best outdoors with a clear view of the sky. It does not work inside buildings, vehicles, or under heavy tree cover.
  • Terrain matters: Mountains, canyons, and dense forests can reduce connectivity.
  • No voice calls: T-Satellite supports texting and data, but not traditional voice calls. You can text 911 in an emergency.

Why Does This Matter?

Until now, workers in remote locations beyond cellular range had limited or no safety coverage. T-Satellite changes that. Whether your team works in forests, deserts, mountains, or rural areas, WorkerSafety Pro can now keep them connected and protected.
